ALERT – Change in LPN Renewal Cycle Does Not Shift Reporting Period for LPNs in 2026

Published: Jun 16, 2026 by Jeffrey Fortkamp

Prepared by: Jim McGovern, Esq. & Brennan Santa, Law Clerk

The Ohio Board of Nursing has adopted changes to the reporting period for LPNs. On March 26, 2026, the changes to the Ohio Administrative Code became effective.[1] In one such change, the definition of “reporting period” was altered to July 1-June 30 in even numbered years.[2]

Even though the definition has been changed, this does not mean that LPNs must report all of their continuing education by June 30, 2026 for the current renewal cycle. The Ohio Board of Nursing has specified that these changes do not impact the reporting period for 2026.[3] Continuing education can still be reported up to October 31, 2026.

The reporting period will not be changing until the 2028 renewal cycle. LPNs should be aware of this change and prepare themselves to adhere to it during the 2028 cycle.
