Alert To All Ohio Nurses Required To Submit To Drug Or Alcohol Screening For The Ohio Board Of Nursing: Changes To The Board’s Screening Partner And Payment Requirement

On June 29, 2026, the Ohio Board of Nursing will transition to Affinity eHealth as the new drug and alcohol testing service provider. This date is tentative and subject to change. With this transition will come changes to the screening process. All Ohio nurses who are currently required to submit to drug and/or alcohol screenings, as part of complying with an Ohio Board of Nursing Consent Agreement or Adjudication Order, should know about the following changes.
Though other changes to the screening process will be revealed this summer, for now we know that the payment system is changing. Where payment for screening used to be billed around the middle of the month for the previous 30 days of collection / analysis, payment will soon be required at the time the participant is selected to test. Thus, under the new system, it will be important for the participant to properly budget and have funds available to pay upon demand. Failing to pay upon demand could lead to no sample being collected and/or analyzed. That could then lead to the Ohio Board of Nursing viewing that scenario as failing to provide a sample on the date selected, which would be treated as a violation of the participant’s Consent Agreement / Adjudication Order.
Further information about the new system of payment should be provided to participants via email in Affinity’s Welcome Packages.
We will post further updates as the Ohio Board of Nursing and/or Affinity eHealth release more information. Monitor our website for further information.
